Eton Mess is a delightful British dessert that combines fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and meringue. It’s easy to make and perfect for summer gatherings.

Eton Mess Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g fresh strawberries (hulled and sliced)
  • 300ml double cream (cold)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4-6 store-bought meringue nests (crushed into chunks)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Whip the Cream:
    • In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the cold double cream until it forms soft peaks. Add the powdered sugar and continue whipping until it thickens. Be careful not to over whip.
  2. Prepare the Strawberries:
    • Slice the strawberries into bite-sized pieces. Reserve a few whole strawberries for garnish.
  3. Crush the Meringue:
    • Gently crush the meringue nests into chunks. You want a mix of larger and smaller pieces for texture.
  4. Assemble the Eton Mess:
    • In a serving glass or bowl, layer the ingredients:
      • Start with a spoonful of whipped cream.
      • Add a layer of sliced strawberries.
      • Sprinkle some crushed meringue on top.
      • Repeat the layers until you’ve used up all the ingredients.
      • Finish with a dollop of whipped cream and a whole strawberry on top.
  5. Garnish:
    • Garnish with fresh mint leaves for a pop of color.
  6. Serve Immediately:
    • Eton Mess is best enjoyed right after assembling. The meringue will soften slightly, creating a delightful mix of textures.

Enjoy your homemade Eton Mess! It’s a delightful balance of sweet, fruity, and creamy goodness.
